
E-mail lists (also known as "listserves" after the popular
list management program, Listserv) are discussion groups in which the
participants communicate via e-mail about certain topics. Most lists are
moderated and have specific and unique instructions concerning appropriate
subject matter for discussion, subscribing and unsubscribing, and submitting
comments to the group. This information should be provided to you via e-mail
after you register with a particular list.
Unless otherwise stated, to subscribe to a
list send E-mail to the address given, leave the subject line blank,
and in the body type "subscribe LIST-NAME YOUR-NAME" (for example, "subscribe
NURSENET John Doe"). Do not include quote marks in your message.

To participate in a newsgroup, you must have:
- an Internet account that supports newsgroups;
- access to the particular newsgroup(s) of interest; and
- software that will allow you to read and respond to the
messages in a newsgroup (many Web browsers provide this capability).
If you are unsure of how to access newsgroups through your
account, contact your systems administrator or your service provider's customer
support.
