SLACK Incorporated is seeking college interns (preferably juniors and seniors) for its Advertising, Marketing, Special Services, Editorial, and Internet and Information departments. Financial compensation will be provided for satisfactory completion of an internship. Some departments, particularly Editorial, may have need for more than one intern per semester.



Advertising - Seeking an individual to assist with production and administrative duties for busy advertising/sales department. Candidate should be detail oriented, computer literate and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Flexible days/hours.

Graphic Design - intern needed for continuing medical education company. Seeking assistance with layout and production of print and digital campaign materials. Candidate should have experience in graphic design and/or production in a PC environment. Must be able to work with a graphic design team in a collaborative environment. Experience with the full Creative Suite CS4 required. Web design knowledge (basic HTML/CSS) a plus.

Journals Editorial - Intern will assist with pre-production tasks such as filing, formatting manuscripts, online peer review; post- production tasks such as indexing, archiving, and preparing/reviewing Web content. There will be opportunities for light proofreading and editing. Candidate must be computer literate and comfortable working in an office environment. One day per week.

Marketing - Seeking a motivated marketing student to intern for 15-20 hours per week for a semester. The intern should have a specific interest in online marketing, data mining, and targeted advertising. Other duties may include researching new list rental opportunities and managing some direct marketing projects.

Marketing - SLACK Incorporated’s Health Care Books & Journals Division is seeking an intern with a background in Communications, Marketing, or Business to work with the staff in the Marketing Department. The responsibilities would be for the Books (www.slackbooks.com) and the Journals (www.slackinc.com/subscribe) groups at SLACK Inc. The internship would be for 10-12 hours per week. We are flexible with days of the week and the hours worked within a 9:00 am to 5:00 pm schedule. The various duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Working on our social media campaign to grow and expand our efforts for our 2 Facebook pages, as well as our 11 Twitter accounts
  • Working on the creation of multiple e-newsletter to go to various markets, including domestic & international distributors and subscription agents.
  • Working on the promotional materials created for our domestic and international distributors.
  • Assist with the routine review and updating of our 12 websites for Books & Journals.
  • Work to research, find, and establish affiliate agreements for Books and Journals with appropriate partners.
  • Assist with the creation of material for various marketing pieces, such as catalogs, flyers, and brochures.
  • Assist the staff of the Marketing Department as needed with daily activities.

Special Services - Our special projects division is seeking an intern to assist in basic research functions related to proposals and editorial projects. The appropriate candidate will be interested in general office assistance, and will have some basic writing and InDesign skills. This opening will accommodate an intern at any time of the year, and would be available for up to 8 hours per week. A candidate must be a student in English, journalism, or communications, with excellent communications skills. This team player must be multitask and detail oriented, and must be computer literate in the following applications: Microsoft Office, the Internet, and InDesign (preferred, not required). Some editorial experience is preferred.
